STEPHANIE BROWN is a multidisciplinary artist, working in traditional media her entire waking life, and tattooing since 2011. Bringing the fluidity and dynamic color from painting into her tattooing work, she draws from the natural world, images from art history, with a strong thread of representing traditional markmaking not typically found in tattooing. Using freehand techniques to create large compositions, her work is deeply complementary and considerate to the human form, not just skin as a medium.
She is based in a private studio in Troy, New York - and occasionally guests in Brooklyn, Chicago, and Portland.
She partnered with the Field Museum since 2016, as a student of artist-in-residence Peggy Macnamara - in a developing project working with the ornithology collections department to create new connections between research collections and the long history of artists representing those species.
